Harrison School for the Arts

Harrison School for the Arts Logo

Harrison School for the Arts is a public high school of choice located in Lakeland which offers students from all over Polk County an enriched arts education. Harrison was created in 1989 in partnership with the Polk Museum of Art, the City of Lakeland, and Florida Southern College. Interested students must meet admission requirements and are selected through an audition process during which they must demonstrate a specific talent in the arts. The program develops both the academic and artistic skills of students interested in artistic careers as well as an appreciation of the arts for those who may choose other fields. Students may audition for one of twelve different departments: chorus, creative writing, dance, guitar, jazz, motion picture arts, musical theatre, orchestra, piano, technical theatre, theatre, and visual arts. Students are dually-enrolled in their academic classes in a traditional high school setting at Lakeland High School, which is located adjacent to the Harrison campus. Students are afforded the benefits of a wide range of both regular and honors courses, with opportunities for advanced placement and college dual-enrollment. Harrison is recognized nationally as an Exemplary School by the Arts Schools’ Network. Performances by the school’s different art departments are offered at various times throughout the school year.

Members of the community can find out more about these performances and purchase tickets by visiting the school’s website at www.harrisonarts.com.
