Lakeland Concert Band
As a part of the arts community, the Lakeland Concert Band is comprised of as many as 90 volunteer musicians from various diverse backgrounds and locations, such as Canada, Puerto Rico, and many of our states, who come together to present to the community, quality, free concerts. Our loyal audience, which has grown and developed over the 40-plus years of our existence, also includes members from Canada and other states and countries, providing residents of the area, as well as visitors, with an excellent addition to the Lakeland arts community and its reputation as a destination for the creative arts. The Lakeland Concert Band repertoire includes a wide variety of music from classical, marches, ethnic selections, and well-known historical popular music from Broadway, to film scores and jazz, with a continued focus on increased audience participation and enriching their musical experience and exposure to the fine arts. Opportunities for the inclusion of local artists is a part of each concert, with additional collaboration, that, in the past, has involved such organizations as the Lakeland Choral Society, Dance Connection, and many fine area popular vocal groups.
Our contribution to the local arts community is reflected in our provision of special premiere musical entertainment for local patriotic events, such as the Veterans Honor Flight return, and other City functions, as requested. The Lakeland Concert Band also provides outreach groups of smaller ensembles, which help to provide more opportunities for the growth of the arts community, including the Music Ambassadors, a dance band which provides free public dances; and the Licorice Sticks, a clarinet ensemble, that performs at local nursing homes, hospitals, and other community events. Our special programming initiatives serve to benefit and enrich the arts and our community, establishing Lakeland as a destination for the creative industries and the arts.
