A lover’s chaotic triangle: Reginald Bunthorne, a moody and handsome poet, is in love with the simple milkmaid, Patience, who is in love with her childhood sweetheart, Archibald Grosvenor, who is also a poet. As the story begins it is revealed all the village’s maidens are in love or, rather, in mad adoration of Bunthorne because of his poetry, which is mediocre at best. Patience discovers she cannot marry Archibald because he is too perfect in every way. Meanwhile, the platoon of Heavy Dragoon Guards, who the village maidens had promised themselves to the year before, discover the maidens have changed their minds about their betrothal to them as they are so in rapture with Bunthorne. The Dragoon Guards decide that the only way to fight poetic aesthetics is with aesthetics. And so, they try. My, do they try! Love against love and aesthetics is caught in the middle. Come see the Florida Southern Opera Theatre and Opera Orchestra perform PATIENCE or, Bunthorne’s Bride.
